As someone who has been in the economic development promotion biz for 20 years, you could not have had a more stark contrast. On the radio in the car I flipped from three stations – the first was reporting from the winning shipbuilding bid in Halifax. People were crying with happiness. I flipped to one NB station where people were complaining about shale gas. I flipped again and heard the the hub meat packing plant in Moncton – which at one time employed nearly 1000 people in good paying jobs – was closing for good. This on top of hearing yesterday that UPS was shipping Moncton jobs to Guatemala (this I haven’t confirmed).
The whole radio thing was a coincidence but I couldn’t help but play it forward a bit.
