Dear Mr. Irving, Thanks. Love, Bernie

Just took a look at exports from New Brunswick for the 12 months ending June 30, 2006 and compared them to the 12 months ending June 30, 2005.

Outside of Irving, the picture ain’t pretty.

Of the top 20 export categories, 12 have declined – most related to our traditional industries such as forestry and seafood. In fact, without the ‘Irving’ effect, exports are down a very serious 16% or almost $400 million.

But this will not be part of the public discourse, it would seem.

Another good reason to call an election now. Eventually these declines will work their way into the employment situation in New Brunswick.
