The takeover of the pulp mill in Nackawic is one step closer according to media reports yesterday. This is turning out to be another Lepreau. Keep the town in a highly emotional, intense environment for months and then announce the deal. People will be so relieved they will most likely vote Tory for decades.
I am interested in the financial deal with Tembec and Aditya Birla Group. Will it be as lucrative as the previous owner desired? Remember, the last owners wanted a financial package from the province and they were summarily rejected – and that was a major influencing factor in the closure. Don’t forget, there will only be 225 of the 400 people working in the new plant, if it gets off the ground and I doubt if the wages will be as high.
My final point is this. The CP article in the T&T says this:
But talks resumed when Premier Bernard Lord became personally involved in negotiations in April that saw Tembec partner with the Birla group of India.
Now that looks like an Al Hoganism, doesn’t it? But I digress.
The point is this. If the ‘personal involvement’ of the Premier is so important where was he before? Where is he on other files?
