Because you won’t see this information in any of our ‘normal’ media sources, I see it as my civic duty to provide you with the facts. The following chart shows the net migration of people to/from New Brunswick and it’s counties from 1995 to 2004. For example, Westmorland County (Moncton) had a positive in-migration of people (over 10,000) in that period (that’s the difference between those moving in and out) while nine counties had a net out-migration. Some of this out-migration was considerable. Restigouche and Gloucester lost 9% and 10% of their total population base to out-migration during the ten years. NB as a whole, lost over 8,000 folks – and the out-migration has been accelerating since 1998.
This should be a wake up call for us. Remember that government spending is up over double in that ten year period. As I have said many times before, the mix of population decline and rapidly escalating government expenditures will inevitably end badly.
